Boost your documentation efficiency in Revit

The latest update for Smart Dimensions and Smart Tags tools makes working with Wood and Metal Framing, Precast Concrete, and Smart Documentation faster and easier.

A new update has just landed that affects our Smart Documentation and Precast Concrete solutions (Wood Framing and Metal Framing soon to receive it, too) for Autodesk® Revit®. This update is specifically related to Smart Dimensions and Smart Tags, tools for batch dimensioning and intelligent batch tagging, which are part of the Smart Views and Smart Assemblies toolsets. Let's walk through the new features and some bug fixes.

Here is what's new in this release of Smart Documentation

Instantly preview configuration changes

We’ve introduced an ‘Apply’ button in the Smart Dimensions and Smart Tags configuration windows, which are now floating, so you can interact with project elements while creating or modifying configurations. This allows you to switch between views and makes it easier to look up element properties and set filters, all within the configuration window.

The key advantage of these improvements is that you can now run configurations without exiting the configuration window, providing an almost instant preview of the results. This means you can quickly test how different settings affect the final result, ensure everything is set up correctly, and run configurations faster and more efficiently.

More options for Smart Tags

You now have the option to run intelligent tagging configurations for selected elements only, instead of having to run them for the entire view.

We’ve also added ‘Update Selected Tags’ and ‘Delete Selected Tags’ to align with the Smart Dimensions menu options. These improvements will help when multiple tagging configurations have been run within the view or on multiple selected element groups.

Dimension/Tag selected elements while in configuration window

These two features can be combined with ease. If you select elements while in the configuration and click ‘Apply’, then the configuration will only run for the selected elements—applicable to both Smart Tags and Smart Dimensions.

This speeds up documentation for different Revit element groups and allows for adjusting configurations on the fly.

You can apply changes to selected elements only instead of everything in view.

More space for your rules

For advanced users, we’ve increased the maximum number of rules in the tagging and dimensioning configurations. You can now define up to 15 rules per Revit category. Don’t forget that you can rename rule tabs to organize your configurations more effectively.

Additional improvements

Improved loading times

Loading times have been improved when using the ‘Isolate Selected’ option (Smart Views). This option hides everything except the selected elements when batch-creating project views. This optimization can provide up to a 4x speed boost for large models.

Smart Tags added to the Revit ribbon

This allows you to access and modify configurations directly from there – rather than having to navigate through the Smart Assemblies configurations.

Bug Fixes

Several issues with filtering have been resolved. Users can now filter elements by workset parameter. The ‘Is not equal No’ and ‘Is not equal Yes’ logic for Yes/No parameters has also been corrected. Additionally, a few other minor fixes have been made.
