The discussion revolves around the Populous-designed stadium, a LEED Gold-certified structure boasting a seating capacity of 30,000, which stands as a striking example of circular architecture. Circular design, stemming from the principles of the Circular Economy, is highlighted as an ethos striving to maintain building materials in constant circulation to minimize waste, pollution, and uphold biodiversity (per the Ellen Macarthur Foundation). Together they unravel the innovative essence of the CommBank Stadium and the valuable circular design insights shaping the future of architecture and design landscapes.

March 5th marks World Energy Efficiency Day, a global initiative dedicated to promoting responsible energy consumption. Founded in 1998 at the International Meeting on Energy Efficiency in Austria, this awareness day aims to reduce unnecessary waste and support production processes utilizing renewable sources whenever possible. Furthermore, it encourages communities around the world to lead by example with sustainable habits while also practicing meaningful recycling of resources. In the Built Environment, resources such as building materials require huge amounts of energy and water to produce so by reducing consumption and increasing efficiency with materials and waste through a circular economy, the pressure due to consumption of resources on the planet is significantly reduced.

Imagine a world where nothing is wasted. Everything is either designed to be recycled or easily broken down through the natural process of entropy into harmless atoms and molecules that do not adversely affect nature, people, or the animals that depend on the natural environment. And potentially where waste from one business is a resource for another.

On World Environment Day, the timing couldn't be more apt to delve into one of the most pressing environmental challenges of our time: water resilience. On April 25, 2024, amidst the buzz of anticipation, the World Green Building Council orchestrated a symphony of ideas and insights, setting the stage for a harmonious dialogue on water resilience in the Built Environment.

World Sustainability Day is an opportunity to reflect on what sustainability in the Built Environment means. It is also a good time to be reminded of the impact of sustainable development in the Built Environment and the principles that drive it towards sustainability.

The 2022 Infrastructure Market Capacity Report states that Australia’s 5-year infrastructure investment pipeline has grown by $15 billion in value compared to the previous 12 months. This is a record investment pipeline in the sector and there is a huge demand for skills and materials to meet these levels.

World Water Day is celebrated globally on the 22nd of March, 2023 as a reminder of the commitment to Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6: water and sanitation for all by 2030. The indicators for SDG 6 are divided into 11 subtopics and will be discussed in detail during the UN 2023 Water Conference on 22-24 March 2023. The theme for 2023 is Valuing Water, and our long-term approach to a sustainable water source, ensuring that we have water for life.
